How to Instal a fireplace

Mount a fireplace central fireplace kit is accessible to all. Follow instructions of common sense and safety. Get help. By following this step you will know how to install a chimney alone (or with friends) when it was already a line and space.

Fireplace installation: choosing the location

To install a fireplace, start by choosing its location. It depends on the flue. Take steps to center the shaft relative to the conduit. Draw on the wall and floor the axis of the chimney. Remember two important elements:
- The fresh air intake should be sufficient to ensure a good draw (in the floor or wall);
- The evacuation of the gases must be successful to reduce the risk of poisoning.

Installation chimney installation elements

Laying the foundation for the fireplace
Install the stone foundation on your floor. Make sure they are level. Then place the various elements of the home, leaving a few millimeters from the wall. Start by installing the hearth plate. Then position the rear of the home. Put the legs on each side of the rear of the home. Check their height, width and horizontal (with level meter rule) before placing the crows and the lintel. Always check that the odds of seat height are observed.

Install chimney of the beam to the drain

Climb the chimney
With your chisel, make holes in the wall of support as indicated in the instructions, above the jambs. You will position the mantle stone or beams. Assemble the elements of the drain (the part which escapes through the smoke) and seal the plaster and tow for a good seal. Install the door pull on the drain. Then, climb the chimney, the last element of the installation of a chimney.

Install chimney finishes

Cover the drain and the pipe
Apply the three panels of the hood and around the inlet duct. Grout plaster and tow couplings between the side panels and walls. Cover the hood of a coating and, optionally, varnish or stains the beam. On some hoods one module to finish the fireplace.

Install chimney strain

In the construction of a chimney, installation of the strain is essential for proper circulation of the fire. It must exceed 40 cm minimum height of the roof and be out of the pressure zone created by the prevailing winds.

How to Install an electric heater

The installation of an electric heater (coil, radiant or inertia) does not present major difficulties. Manufacturers provide guides to correctly position the sites of the metal section which supports.

Install a radiator: select location

An electric heater can be installed anywhere for proper operation and optimize its performance.
In a house devoid of insulation , installing a radiator is, ideally, under a window or door, and a cold wall, facing the outside, to fight against the cold wall effect. However, if the room is properly insulated, the radiator can be placed elsewhere.

Remember however, that the radiating and storage devices are more effective if they are not placed behind an obstacle , such as furniture, plants or otherwise. Finally, an electric heater should always be installed away from curtains and anything that might be likely to catch fire easily. It should not be in the air currents, which could distort the operation of the thermostat. The base of the radiator must be within 15 cm of soil to a minimum.

Installing a radiator: fixing

Every radiator is supplied with electrical brackets. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and follow the drill guide supplied for installing the heater. Check with your spirit level that your electric heater is level. Choose the size and nature of your screws and bolts according to your wall (plaster, concrete ...). Use anchors designed for insulating materials , if necessary. Slide the heater in the channel (the medium of your wall-mounted).

Note : some electric storage heaters are particularly heavy and can not be placed on stud walls, including plasterboard. They are then simply laid on the ground, on special media.

Install a radiator: the connection

Make connections
A heater should always be fed by a line independent of the lighting circuit or taken, drawn from the main distribution panel. The characteristics of this line is accurate, especially for the son of conductor diameter and especially if it feeds several radiators. Initially the table, it must be protected by an RCD of a caliber. If in doubt, check with a professional.

Close to the radiator or behind this line is equipped with a box "with cable" which ensures a quiet connection.

Disconnect the power. Connect the son of the electric heater you have a bare box. If applicable, connect the ground wire properly and the polarity in the junction box

Installing and connecting a room thermostat

Control its energy consumption is a "plus" offered by the room thermostat. It acts on the boiler and the tuning is done by heating the thermostatic valves. Install an electronic thermostat depends on the strength of the coils and the presence of a pilot wire.

Choose a room thermostat

A room thermostat can remotely control the operation of a boiler for heating the central or electric heaters. In principle, the models are the same for both applications but their mode of connection is different.

A room thermostat also allows you to program the heating mode depending on the occupancy or changes in outside temperature.

Finally, there are electronic thermostats wireless control box, installed in the habitable zone, battery operated which makes the choice of location.

Electronic thermostat: select the connection type

In the event that the thermostat controlling electric heaters, you may need to install a power switch:

- Coil wireless driver, power below 1100 W = no switch;
- Coil wireless driver, power above 1100 W = switch;
- Heater with pilot wire, power less than or greater than 1100 W = no switch.

Generally, if the thermostat acts on a central heating boiler, the power switch is not necessary
The choice of the intensity of the contactor depends on the total power of coils connected:
- Total power of the coil from 1 100 to 4400 W = 20 A contactor;
- Total power of the coil from 4 400 to 8 800 W = 40 A contactor;
- Total power convectors 8800 to 13 200 W switch = 60 A.

Install a room thermostat: the laying

Determine the best location. The thermostat should be at eye level , away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplace, sun). If it is not wireless, it should also allow it to be easily connected to the boiler or the line that feeds the electric heaters.

Drill holes as the template of the thermostat, plug and screw it on the wall.

Connecting a room thermostat

 Turn off power at circuit breaker before working on the main power grid.
Thermostat wiring depends on the brand and type of heating, electrical or not, with or wireless driver. observe the indications provided in the installation guide, especially for the choice of drivers, their color, their nature, diameter, and the instructions for the line protection and equipment.

Chimney sweeping

The legislation imposes a chimney sweeping twice a year. The issuance of a certificate is useful to your insurance if you have a fire. Knowing that you will not be covered by it, but you can make your chimney maintenance yourself: through the roof or by the fireplace.

Step 1. Sweeping chimney protection

Prefer clothes that have nothing to fear, or better, put on a wetsuit to do chimney cleaning. Make sure the fire is not smoldering in the ashes, remove them. Place in the home and put a tarp over a large bowl.

Step 2. Sweeping the chimney through roof

Attach a second sheet on the hearth of the fireplace to prevent splashing into the room.Maintenance of fire protection begins with its interior. Get on the roof after confirming.Enter the hedgehog attached to the pole in the ear and scrape the walls. Whenever the four walls are scraped off the hedgehog few feet and repeat. Extend the pole as and when you get off. Arrived at home, make moving back and forth along the length of the pipe several times. Roll up your poles and your hedgehog. Operation "chimney sweeping" is almost complete. Descend from the roof. Scrape the sides of the grate with a wire brush. Then evacuate your bowl with soot. Vacuum.

Step 3. Sweeping the chimney hearth

Keep chairs and sofas before the chimney sweeping. Then extend your second tarp on the floor before the fire to limit the projections. Insert the pole into the ear with the hedgehog. Rub involved the four walls. Then mount the hedgehog a few tens of centimeters. Repeat the operation. Arriving at the top, repeat the movement back and forth along the length of the duct. Complete your chimney sweeping, scraping the sides of the hearth. For this use a wire brush. Finish your chimney cleaning by removing dirt from your bowl. Remember to vacuum
