Install grab bars in the bathroom

The bathroom is a little obvious room to use for the elderly or those with physical disabilities. Indeed not easy to step over the tub or take a shower door without strong support, placed at proper height. Same in the bathroom, to sit or stand up. With a grab bar, everything becomes easier.

Set location

In the bathroom, it is advisable to equip each potential obstacle to a grab bar . Its height and orientation are determined based on the actions to be performed and the size of the individuals concerned.

To enter or leave the bathtub, a vertical bar represents a first support. It is good to complete a horizontal, or better, 45 ° inclined to help to sit or stand up. A slash is also recommended for the shower and toilet.

Preparing attachments

Mark the location of each bar and see its mounting holes on the wall. To go through the tile without chipping, stick tape to the place the mountings and clear the impact of your drill. Drill at slow speed until you cross the floor and snap percussion drill for masonry (concrete, cinder block, stone ...).

In a solid material, the holes must be the same diameter as the pegs but a little deeper (about 5 mm). In a hollow wall (brick honeycomb plasterboard ...), make holes slightly smaller. Dust off the holes before driving the pegs, universal or expanded depending on the wall.

Set the bar

Present the bar to its location and thread it through the holes in its wall plates. Tighten the screws and then test its strength , which must be absolute in a strong push or pull
