Wastewater Disposal
The blackwater (from toilets) and greywater (from sinks, sink, tub ...) are wastewater. They must be subject to separate drainage systems. The first is called drop (large vertical pipe). The second is called descent. They are connected to the collector at the bottom of the building. But often, the wastewater discharge is the same for both networks.Wastewater Connection
Since 1 January 2006, all municipalities with more than 2,000 inhabitants must be connected to a sewage treatment plant. The houses are all connected to a sewage system. The municipalities whose habitat is very dispersed exempted from this requirement. They must, however, control their own private facilities.Wastewater Treatment
For homes that still have a septic tank , the obligations for the treatment of wastewater are the following. Wastewater (domestic and valves) should be treated. The wastewater treatment is done in two steps:- Decantation: the heavy particles are separated and form a sludge from the other light particles (fats);
- Fermentation: the bacteria naturally contained in sewage cause partial destruction of residues.
Then the wastewater is treated, according to three different devices: trench, sand filter or mound.
