Install a smoke detector at home

In which rooms to install a smoke detector?

Also place a detector in the stairways or corridors : they are often on multiple parts, and in case of fire, smoke engulfed them like a chimney.

You can also place a detector in every room where there are electrical appliances (living room, kitchen, office ...).

NB: be careful however not to place a detector in the kitchen near the cooking areas, which could trigger the smoke detector unintentionally at each meal preparation.

Where to install smoke detectors?

Avoid rooms with a temperature below 4 ° C or above 37 ° C.
Do not install a detector in your bathroom or your garage : the steam and smoke exhaust can cause false alarms.

Similarly, the "electronic noise" from some fluorescent lights can activate them.

Also avoid the near heaters , windows, ceiling fans and air conditioners. If you place the detector in a very ventilated area, it might not be triggered.

What a smoke detector you choose?

Opt for smoke detectors interconnected (with or without a son): the alarm will go off all your alarms at the same time. This will facilitate the fight against fire or the evacuation of the premises.

Make sure that the detectors you buy are marked EN 14604 indicating that they are substandard.
